First car goes into production in March
- Fisker Automotive was born three years ago.
- The first car will go into production later on in March.
- At the Geneva motor show the Fisker Karma was displayed.
- The Fisker Karma is an electric car, kitted out with four cylinders, petrol powered, range extender engine.
- Chief Executive Henrik Fisker said the Californian Company hopes to sell 15,000 cars per year.
- Mr Fisker is a former Aston Martin and BMW designer then hopes the company will grow and achieve sales in the hundreds of thousands.
- Fisker is the second car company to launch an electric car with a range extender.
- General motors Chevrolet Volt which in on sale also features the range extender.
- Karma is very luxurious car, so the company hopes it will be a rival to a high end car like BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Audi.
- Henrik Fisker says the idea behind the car is so sacrifice in terms of style, power or price.
- The price of the Karma is around the same price as the Porsche Panamera petrol electric Hybrid.
- The Porsche Panamera was launched on Tuesday at the Geneva motor show.
- Karma price starts at 85,000 euros (£72,000, $117,000).
- Selling the 15,000 cars hoped would bring in $1.5bn in Revenues.
- Range Extender cars have batteries too, as well as petrol powered engines, the engines drive a generator, this in turn sends power to the electric motor.
- This stops the range anxiety suffered by Electric Cars.
- The Karma seats four adults.
- The batteries overs a 50 mile range on full charge.
- The range extender adds another 250 miles.
- 0-60 mph in less than 60 seconds.
